The best crossovers are those that combine rugged off-road looks, top family car practicality and economy gas consumption.

Its other features include all-wheel drive, eight-speed automatic transmission and 180 horsepower.

Nissan Juke

This one gulps an average of 32 mpg highway and 29 mpg city (29 mpg combined). It is more compact than the rest and therefore returns a good gas mileage. Its striking styling compensates for it small size. It has a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine giving it a very strong performance.

Mazda CX-5 2WD manual

Mazda CX-5 2WD has combined rating of 29 mpg (35 mpg highway and 26 mpg city). It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and is one of the most economical crossovers on the market. It is able to achieve 35 mpg because it is manual and is a 2 wheel-drive. If you opt for an all-wheel-drive this will drop to 29 mpg.

Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid

This one has combined consumption of 31 mpg (33 mpg highway and 29 mpg city). It is a very fuel-efficient crossover. It is powered by a flat-four gasoline engine and a small 10 Kw electric motor.

Buick Encore

Here you will get 28 mpg combined (33 mpg highway and 25 mpg city). It boasts a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine which is quite good for a crossover. It is very efficient offering automatic transmission, and its interior volume is greater than the average crossover.

Subaru XV Crosstek AWD

This is one of the most efficient crossovers on the market. It does an average of 33 mpg highway and 25 mpg city (28 mpg combined). It has a four-cylinder engine.

Nissan Rogue

Nissan Rogue does 28 mpg combined (33 mpg highway and 26 mpg city). It is competitively price starting at $22,790 making it quite respectable in economy ratings. It has a 2.5-liter gasoline engine; it is comfortable and spacious with an option of seven seats.
