It is surprising to note that the most-stolen cars are not those poshest luxury models or the flashiest sports cars but the familiar family cars. The message will be chilling if you own any of these models that are most stolen.

GRAND CHEKOREE

FBI says the rate of car theft in 2013 shows some decline compared to the 2012 figures and it predicts that when the final 2013 figures will be out, they will most probably show a 3.2 percent decrease.

β€œThe drop in thefts is good news for all of us, but it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year,” said Joe Wehrle, the NICB president and CEO.

According to NICB, the following are the 10 models that topped the list of most-stolen cars in America in the year 2013; both old and new.

1. Honda Accord
53,995 units of this model were stolen in 2013
