After launching a rather mediocre Amazing Spiderman title in 2012, Activision is looking to bring the franchise back to life with The Amazing Spiderman 2. We have just seen our first preview of the new gameplay coming to the second game in the series.
Most of the trailer shows the open world the player can explore as Spiderman, flying from building to building. The combat appears to be based off the Batman franchise, not a big problem for us, although we hope the mechanics are slightly different to show Spiderman’s dexterity.
Spidey-sense looks like another mechanic players can use in the game, allowing them to stealth around combat areas and find other ways to get around a certain objective. We hope this is a mechanic that enhances the experience and isn’t just a mini-cheat system for getting objectives.
There has been no mention on what exactly Spiderman will be doing throughout the game, in terms of an end goal or bad guy to beat. It will probably branch of The Amazing Spiderman story in some way, as Activision did in 2012.
One thing to be a little worried about is the graphical fidelity on The Amazing Spiderman 2, texture on the walls do not look that nice, especially since this is meant to be coming to next generation consoles and PC.
The poor graphical quality could be amended before the final release and even if it is not, we could see The Amazing Spiderman 2 offer some really smart mechanics to make combat and stealth exciting, making graphical quality less of a big feature.
The Spiderman video game will be available on April 29, on PS3, PS4, Wii U, 3DS, PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It will be nice to see Activision change the graphical output for next generation consoles, considering they can handle more intensive graphics.
