Green Tea Improves Memory

Do you have a poor memory? Worry not anymore since a new study has found out that green tea extract boosts the cognitive functioning of the brain, especially for the working brain.

The study was published in the journal of Psychopharmacology and the research was performed by teams of Professor Christoph Beglinger from the University of Basel in conjunction with Professor Stefan Borgwardt from the Psychiatric University Clinics.

By increasing the brain’s effective connectivity, there is casual influence that one area of the brain exerts over the other, in reference to the study findings.

During the study, healthy male volunteers were prescribed a soft drink containing a good amount of green tea extract prior to working solved memory tasks. From the analysis of the results, the scientists found some effects of the green tea extract on the brain activity of the volunteers through the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

They also observed an improvement in actual cognitive performance with subjects testing significantly better for working memory tasks after they took the green tea extract.

According to the study, there was increased connectivity between the parietal and the frontal cortex of the brain as observed in the MRI. There was a strong connectivity in these findings with improvement in task performance in the volunteers.

“Our findings suggest that green tea might increase the short-term synaptic plasticity of the brain”. Prof. Borgwardt verified.
