Skin conditions can be a real hassle sometimes, but, thankfully, there are plenty of remedies out there, so you’re likely going to find something that is right for you. Here are some of best picks for five of the most common skin conditions.

Perhaps the most common skin condition, acne affects people of all ages, but especially teenagers. It is caused by a variety of different factors, but simply, acne appears when pores become clogged with sebum. Acne can produce scarring. This acne scars can be treated as well, though it is more difficult.

  • Honey
Honey is a natural antiseptic that can work wonders for a variety of different of skin conditions. It has basically no side effects, and it’s absolutely delicious. You can use it as a basis for a facial mask.
  • Aloe Vera gel
Is there anything aloe can’t do? It works wonders against acne, and once that’s done, you can use it as a daily moisturizer to prevent acne from reappearing.
  • Sodium bicarbonate
Humble sodium bicarbonate is a cheap, safe ingredient that can be used both as a facial mask and a scrub. Personally, I prefer the face mask alternative, since facial scrubs are a bit too harsh for my skin, and tend to irritate areas that are already sensitive.

This relatively common skin condition can often be confused with acne because of the reddish bumps it causes that look a bit like pimples. You can distinguish rosacea by the red patches that appear along with the bumps, usually on the face. It is one of those conditions that never really goes away, but can be manageable with the right treatment.

  • Avoid triggers
Find out what makes your rosacea flare-up and try to avoid it. I, for one, never leave the house without a thick layer of sunscreen. Spicy foods and certain cosmetic ingredients also tend to make the condition worse.
  • Chamomile Tea
Chamomile is great for irritated skin, and because it has a very mild effect, it can be used for many different conditions. I’ve discovered that for an even more soothing effect, it’s best to leave the chamomile infusion in the fridge a couple of minutes before applying it.
  • Thermal Water
For milder episodes, I would also recommend thermal water. Keeping your skin clean and moisturized is essential when dealing with rosacea.

Boils are large, red lumps on the skin. They appear when a hair follicle becomes infected. They can be painful, and, if left untreated, they can get much worse.

  • Heat Soaks
For minor boils, there are a variety of DIY options you can turn to, though treatment should start immediately after you notice them, if you want it to be really effective. If the boil is not too large, you can apply heat to the area. This will help your body fight off the infection.
  • Lancing
Lancing is a medical procedure and should be performed by a professional. It basically involves draining the boil of pus until the area is clean. I’d recommend this method in more serious cases, if the boils don’t respond to home remedies in about two weeks.

Generally, warts are not a very serious condition. They can very well go away on their own. However, warts do tend to be annoying, especially when they end up brush against clothes becoming sore.

  • Salicylic Acid
This is the common ingredient found in most treatments against warts. It’s not going to work overnight, but because it’s so mild, this also means it has basically no side-effects.
  • Freezing
This method is quite efficient for removing warts. However, it does not guarantee that the wart will not reappear. It can also be a little bit pricey (a wart removal kit costs around 30$), compared to other methods, but it does get the job done.

On the surface, psoriasis looks like red patches, with a tendency to flake. The causes of psoriasis are quite complex, and, even though the condition can’t be cured, it can certainly be kept in check. Find out what works best for you.

Fish Oil Supplements

  • Fish Oil Supplements
Omega 3 is great for reducing inflammation. It can also help boost your immune system, which can alleviate some of the symptoms of psoriasis.
  • Vitamin D
Vitamin D can also help reduce inflammation. If you follow the recommended dosage, as specified on the label, vitamin D has no side effects, which makes it a great everyday treatment.
  • Coconut Oil and Honey Face Mask
This face mask is worth it, if only just for the smell and feel of it. Like most natural remedies, it has no side-effects, and can help soothe your skin and protect it.

Every person is different, so don’t worry if a treatment doesn’t work for you overnight. Take it from me, these things take time and a lot of experimentation, but eventually you’re bound to find the method that does the trick.
