There is a new exciting initiative being supported by a much-loved media personality to be launched in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge with the intention of attracting more visitors and support local businesses.
This follows the success of Wilmslow Show, Scarecrow Festival, Motor Show Artisan Market Gingerbread Bread Trail, and Alderley Edge May Fair. It is now apparent that Wilmslow and Alderley will be launching this summer.
From their reputation as up-market places with many popular and rich residents, Wilmslow and Alderley will be hosting Stargazing Tour which will provide double-decker bus tours around the town and village with stop-over at various celebrities homes, with the inclusion of Sir Alex Ferguson, Coronation Street star William Roache, Denise Welch, Samia Smith and Helen Flanagan, as well as Alan Turing, the former home of the brilliant mathematician and wartime code-breaker.
There will be photo opportunities outside the homes of footballers such as Rio Ferdinand, Andy Cole, Van Persie, including former homes of David and Victoria Beckham.
Double-decker buses will operate hourly to give tourists chances to get on and off at places of their interests, either for a few minutes to pose for photos or for an hour if they want to have a closer glimpse to the neighborhood.
Due to expected rains on the cities such as London, Cambridge, and Oxford, the initial plan to have a fleet of open top buses has been reconsidered. Double-decker buses will carry more tourists as well.
Visitors will either be dropped at Wilmslow or Alderley Edge to join a walking tour which hosts numerous charity shops offering tourists opportunities to pick up celebrity bargain at the end of the tour.
Ahead the start of Stargazing Tour, each celebrity will have agreed to have a good clear-out of their home and donate any unwanted clothing and accessories to local charity shop of their choice. Money accrued from celebrities’ donations will be split between the Town Council and chosen charity that will then use their share to fund another Traffic Warden to aid in traffic control as well as dangerous parking—making it an attractive visit venue.
Marketing Director at Stargazing Tour, Avril Fous-Blaque told wimslow.co.uk that they were absolutely delighted to be launching their hop on hop double-decker sightseeing tour in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge, adding that it was obvious choice for them for the most sought-after place to live in UK after central London, with many celebrities and impressive houses for prominent personalities.
Avril also said that their national marketing campaign will start towards the end of the month and that they aim to have everything up and running at the start of the summer.
Recent statistics indicate that tourism is increasing towards Cheshire East, regardless of the tough economic climate. The annual analysis of Borough’s visitor shows that the tourism grew by 7% in 2013 and is currently worth £737m.
Figures for the Borough publicized last week indicate that the visitor economy has increased by 35% since Cheshire East Council was launched in 2009 and the number of visitors has risen by 18%. In last year, 13.9 million people visited the Borough. However, Wilmslow and Alderley are not amongst the Borough’s main tourist attractions.
Most people visit Tatton Park and other country parks and with the Cheshire East Council focus on revitalizing Crewe and Macclesfield, it is rather certain that the new celebrity tours will boost the business tourism sector and make Wilmslow and Alderley Edge tourist attraction sites.
