People Magazine Named Lupita Nyong’o Most Beautiful Person For 2014

Oscar Best Actress Lupita Nyong’o is named People magazine’s “Most Beautiful person for 2014.”

The “12 Years a Slave” actress seems to be on a roll with all the achievements she garnered this year including signing a deal with giant cosmetic company Lancome.

The 31-year-old actress joins a line up of A- listers who were honoured with this award including Beyonce, Cindy Crawford, Tom Cruise, and Julia Roberts. The Mexican-born Kenyan actress made it to the top of the list, beating Amber Heard, Keri Russell, Pink, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Mindy Kaling, and Kerry Washington.

This is People’s Most Beautiful issue’s 25th year. Last year’s Most Beautiful person was Gwyneth Paltrow. The first person who topped this list is Michelle Pfeiffer in 1990.

During the awards season, she gained much attention wherever red carpet she walked on as her poise and beauty placed her straight to countless best-dressed lists and magazine covers.

Gifted with a strong command on a wide range of color spectrum, Nyong’o rocked a red Ralph Lauren during the Golden Globes Award and dazzled everyone in her emerald green Dior during the BAFTAs. During the Oscars, no one could top her in her blue Prada which fits her perfectly.

In Interviews, Nyong’o said she is more than just flattered with the awards she garnered and the honour that People magazine gave.

During her Black Woman in Hollywood luncheon honorary speech February, she touched a delicate topic about beauty, “specifically “dark beauty.” She recounted her experience when she was teased for her “night-shaded” complexion which she said was very difficult for her to overcome. It was her mother who inspired her. Her mother told her that true beauty is about being compassionate to yourself and the people around her. Nyong’o said that kind of beauty makes the heart and soul grow.

Nyong’o was overwhelmed by the feeling of being so insecure about her complexion to landing on famous magazine covers.

Another great honor Nyong’o received is being named the first black ambassador to the French cosmetic giant Lancome. She said she is very proud to be the representative of the main ideals of the company which is that beauty should not be dictated but it should be every woman’s expression of her freedom.

Another basis for People magazine honouring her with the award is how her humble reaction to her rise to fame, which is evident in her Instagram profile which has over a million followers.
