Chantelle Brown, the 20-year old Canadian, was chosen to be one of the 14 contestants on this summer’s cycle of reality competition. In her America’s Next Top Model audition tape, Chantelle said a lot of people have a story and background, but hers is painted on her body.
Her selection as one of the 14 contenders has helped her to fulfill her lifelong dream of breaking into this industry. Surprisingly, on Monday night, she was cut for seeming “too tight” in photographs.
That doesn’t matter, though, because she is already the star of global fashion brand the Desigual’s fall campaign.
A bit of her history; at age 4, Chantelle was diagnosed with vitiligo. This is a condition that causes patchy depigmentation of the skin. But she pulled through. “I just decided I’m going to tell myself that I am beautiful and this is how I may be for the rest of my life. I need to accept it, embrace it and enjoy it,” she said.
It is her uncommon beauty coupled with her undaunted spirit that pushed her forward. Chantelle hasn’t stopped working since she returned home to Toronto after her last Top Model Episode. She has been on runways, ad campaigns, editorial photo shoots, etc. quite unimaginable of a girl whose school years were filled with nicknames like “zebra” and “cow”
Her success can also be attributed partly to social media. Chantelle has more than 245,000 followers on Instagram where she shares her new work as well as fan art that speaks to her remarkable persona. It is on this platform where she was discovered by Tyra Banks.
