
2016 will be one of the biggest years for superhero movies headed by Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool and Gambit. There are also comedies many people are looking forward to like the Zoolander sequel and the new Ghostbusters. For kids, there are also highly anticipated animations like the sequel to the blockbuster Finding Nemo. Of course, there will also be Oscar-friendly dramas in the mix. Here are the biggest movies we are most excited to see this year.
1. Deadpool (February 12)
By the time you are reading this, you have probably seen Deadpool by freshman director Tim Miller. In the movie, there is an interesting pairing of Ryan Reynolds and Gina Carano. It is now on the way to become the highest grossing R-rate movie in history. If you haven’t seen it then you better find the nearest IMAX and reserve a seat.
2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25)
This is arguably the most anticipated superhero movie of 2016. Fanboys have been looking forward to its release since teasers were released last year. We can’t wait for this epic event picture and how Jesse Eisenberg will interpret the supervillain Lex Luthor. It will either be a slam dunk or a major disaster and we just can’t wait any longer.
3. The Jungle Book (April 15)
This stars newcomer Neel Sethi together with Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray. It is directed by Jon Favreau who will interpret Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale. The movie will be a live-action thriller with mind-blowing CG-animated animal characters. Fans young and old are now eagerly anticipating this flick.
4. Captain America: Civil War (May 6)
Most people call this the next Avengers Movie and this is understandable. It features almost all of Marvel’s Avengers taking sides and going to war. You can also call it Captain America versus Iron Man which will be an epic battle to remember. Ever since the first teaser was released to the public, fans of the superhero group have been looking forward to this summer flick. Marvel will once again enjoy the honor of kick-starting the summer movie season.
5. X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27)
This will be the conclusion to the latest X-Men trilogy with Professor Xavier and his mutant crew going against one of their most powerful adversaries Apocalypse and set in the 1980s. The evil villain will be portrayed by one of the best actors today (Oscar Isaac) and based on the trailer released he will be one of the biggest villains this year.
6. Warcraft (June 10)
Director Duncan Jones finally got a shot at the big time with this big budgeted adaptation of one of the most popular multiplayer online games of all time. This will a battle of humans against orcs in this epic 2016 movie. Trailers have not been encouraging enough but there is always a possibility that the director will shock and awe us. Only time will tell.
7. Ghostbusters (July 15)
The movie features Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon as the beloved Ghostbusters and this makes the movie worth watching. Can you imagine Thor playing the nerdy secretary to the four awesome comediennes? This alone makes the remake worth watching. The original cast will also have cameo roles in this potential blockbuster.
8. Star Trek Beyond (July 22)
Although J.J. Abrams left the blockbuster franchise for Star Wars, he made an impression and earned the respect of most Trekkies. He even made a lot of new Star Trek fans with his two Star Trek movies. This will surely be one of the biggest movies of 2016.
9. Suicide Squad (August 5)
Everyone is anticipating how Jared Leto will play the Joker in this much awaited superhero flick. Margot Robbie will also interpret Harley Quinn, the Joker’s better (or worse) half. Will Smith will also have a crack at the character Deadshot.
10. Assasin’s Creed (December 21)
Michael Fassbender will transform to Master Assassin after playing the role of Macbeth. Based on one of the biggest video games of all time, this will surely be a movie to remember. We can’t wait to find out if this will click with audiences or crash and burn just like many video game-based franchises.
These are not the only movies we’re excited to see this year. Speaking of superhero movies, this will also be the year Gambit and Doctor Strange will grace the big screen. It will also be the year Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) will be making a comeback. At the end of the year, another Star Wars movie will be released called Rogue One.
