After the Shah of Iran left the capital city Tehran due to the societal convulsion back in 1979, its flashy cars also went to look for sanctuary.
Some classic, luxury and sports cars were hidden underground, while a lot were taken out of Iran.
Some revolutionary leaders were able to requisite the cars and were sold. While the other cars became exhibits in a museum located northwest of Tehran.
But with the wealthy elites of the city drawing money from its abundant oil resources, beautiful classic cars can still be found in Iran.
Iran’s former populist president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is also a big car enthusiast. He had a charity auction for one of his cars. His 1977 Peugeot 504 sedan was sold at $2.5 million in 2011.
On August 5, there was a classic car show held just outside of the Saadabad Palace, which is the official residence of the president.
Here are the rest of the amazing classic cars in the car show:
1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE convertible
1974 Citroën DS
Circa-1973 Maserati Merak
1964 Chevrolet Impala SS
