It is emerging that details of close to 5 million Gmail accounts have been leaked and anyone can be a victim. The details, including passwords were leaked at a Russian forum which is related to Bitcoin.
The details can be found in an achieved account which is not password-protected and therefore can be downloaded by anyone. And 60 percent of the accounts are valid and are working.
Google tried to allay its users’ fears saying that its servers have not been compromised. The asserted that the information leaked might have been obtained from another source.
“The security of our users’ information is a top priority for us. We have no evidence that our systems have been compromised, but whenever we become aware that accounts may have been, we take steps to help those users secure their accounts,” said a Google spokesperson.
To ensure that your Google account is secure, you can turn to a 2-step verification system. Google explains that this system adds an extra layer of security to your account. This greatly reduces the chances of having the personal information in your account stolen. Once you change to this system, those intending to steal your personal information will have to know your username and password and also get a hold of you phone.
Two-layer verification will provide you with a one-time verification code on your phone that you will use together with your password to access your account.
Do you want to check whether your account is in this leaked list? Just go to https://isleaked.com/en.php and enter your email ID then click on “Check it”.
