Ello is a new social network that is giving Facebook a run for its money. It is a porn-friendly, ads-free social network that is taking the Internet by storm with people clamoring for invites to the site.
But will it manage to bring Facebook down without mining data about our connected lives? That depend on how much users hate ads in their newsfeeds and how Ello will play its game.
As it stands now, up to 31,000 people are joining this site per hour. This is because it is new and at the same time taking advantage of the tumultuous summer for Facebook.
This is what Ello says on the site: “Collecting and selling your personal data, reading your posts to your friends, and mapping your social connections for profit is both creepy and unethical. Under the guise of offering a “free” service, users pay a high price in intrusive advertising and lack of privacy”.
Ello claims to be different to Facebook in as much as it does not sell ads or data to third parties.
Ello is completely free to use and if you do not like the direction that Ello is heading you can always delete your account though data might remain on its servers even after deletion.
