BlackBerry fell out of favor with the majority of smartphone purchasers, but it has always held a certain appeal to the super-rich.
It is therefore not a surprise to see the Porsche Design p’9983 being unveiled at London’s Harrods. This is a store where gold-plated Xbox Ones and personal submarines sit side by side.
This phone is the latest collaboration between BlackBerry and Porsche Design. Their first device was the P’9981 which had BlackBerry Bold 9900 crammed into a new chassis.
This idea was so popular that they managed to sell 170,000 units, and became Harrod’s biggest selling device.
The P’9981 was followed by P’9982 or a BlackBerry Z10 which had larger storage space and an angular exterior. 30,000 units of this model were sold during its life.
The new device will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core MSM8960 processor. It will have a 3.1-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 720, and 2GB RAM. It will have 64GB of internal storage and a microSD slot that will take cards of up to 128GB.
It sports an 8MP camera and sapphire crystal-coated lens at the back. In bright light, the photos are great with bright color reproduction.
The Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9983 will cost $2,000 (about €1,780) which is a little too expensive for most users.
