18 Pan-American Highway Stops

If you want to see various sceneries in just one long road, then you have to experience a road trip on the 30,000-mile-long Pan-American Highway.

  1. Prudhoe Bay. In your first stop in Alaska stay at one of the 400 beds of the Aurora Hotel.
  2. The Sour Toe Cocktail. In Yukon, Canada, stay at Dawson City’s Downtown Hotel, and take a sip from their special Champaign cocktail.
  3. Tombstone Territorial Park. The granite peaks in the Arctic Circle’s edge at Yukon resemble eerie tombstones.
  4. West Edmonton Mall. Visit Alberta’s West Edmonton, the biggest shopping mall in this side of the planet covering 48 city blocks.
  5. Hole-in-the-Wall Hideout. This Bighorn Mountain Pass in Wyoming is the infamous hiding place of outlaws such as the Sundance Kid, Butch Cassidy and Jesse James.
  6. Very Large Array. You can see 27 super radio antennae observers lining up in New Mexico to observe galaxies, stars, and black holes.
  7. Chapultepec Castle. This is the only real castle located in North America, specifically in Mexico.
  8. Uxmal. Witness the tallest Mayan step pyramid in Mexico and experience wonder and awe.
  9. Joya de Ceren. Stop at El Salvador and see the Pompeii of Central America, where an ancient village lies preserved under big layers of volcanic minerals.
  10. Heladeria Coromoto. In Venezuela, you have to try Merida’s ice cream shop, Viagra Hope, hot dog, chilli, and trout.
  11. Avenue of the Volcanoes. In Ecuador, you can see some of the most explosive volcanoes in the world, like the Cotopaxi.
  12. Swing at the End of the World. Go to the Casa del Arbol in Ecuador and witness how Mt. Tungurahua is being observed.
  13. Fortress of Kuelap. You can see the Western Hemisphere’s biggest stone ruin site in Peru.
  14. Salar de Uyuni. You can find the biggest salt flat in Bolivia, which stretches to 4,086.
  15. Whale Graveyard. Scientists found 40 fossilized skeletons of whales in Chile.
  16. Lujan Zoo. Hug bears, tigers and even lions in BuenoS Aires, Argentina.
  17. Perito Moreno Glacier. The third biggest fresh water reserve in the world, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field feeds the glacier in Argentina.
  18. Ushuaia. If you want to go further south from Argentina, take a fery and go to the Southern Patagonia Ice Field.
