After THQ announced it would be going into liquidation, South Park: The Stick of Truth was put on the line, unable to gain funding to carry on the game and without a publisher, it looked like a grim future for the South Park creator’s first video game.
However, Ubisoft managed to pick up the rights to publish the game and continue the IP if they wished. Obsidian Entertainment, the team involved in making the original Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas, would develop the game and work with the creators of the TV series for plot and characters.
Just this week, the video game was finally available to play on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It has been in production for three years now and is an open world RPG. The player goes around the town of South Park, interacting with various characters to find the Stick of Truth.
Being a South Park game, it is hilarious, rude and offensive to almost every single person and depending on your sense of humor and how many poop jokes you can swallow, it may or may not be the video game for you.
South Park: The Stick of Truth is a rather long video game, the player has to go through several quests and fight different timed battles with enemies in order to progress. Reviews for the game have been mostly positive, pointing to the games fun turn based fighting style and comedy.
The video game will only be available on last generation’s hardware, meaning the Xbox One and PS4 will not be grabbing the game anytime soon. With PlayStation Now, we may see the game pop up on Sony’s library sometime in the future.
